|Kenneth E. Lawson, age 82 of Galesburg, Ill. died Sunday February 24, 2013 at 6:05 p.m. at Cottage Hospital.
He was born February 17, 1931 in Galesburg, Ill. the son of James L. and Ethel M. Sanders Lawson. He married Luella M. Pierce on April 21, 1954 in Galesburg. She preceded in death January 7, 1984. He later married Joyce E. Swanson on October 5, 1985 in Galesburg.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Joyce; four daughters, Susan and Gale Miner of Champaign, Ill., Mary and Jim Smith of Knoxville, Ill., Linda Kitterman and her fiancé Chris Volker, and Barb and Ron West, both of Galesburg; one brother, William F. Lawson of Colorado, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and two step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and Hank; and three sisters, Eileen, Marlene, and Clarice.
He worked for the City of Galesburg Water Department for 33 years retiring in 1986. He enjoyed going to the Riverboat.
He served in the United States Army for four years. He was a POW in Korea for three years. He received many medals including the Combat Infantry Badge, National Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the Purple Heart. He was a member of the DAV, VFW Post 2257, and the American Ex-Prisoners of War.
Cremation is to be conducted with private family service at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
