|George W. Jones, Jr., 74, died Friday, April 12, 2013. He passed away at his home of lung cancer.
George was born on April 13, 1938 in Warren County, Illinois. He was the son of George W. and Margaret L. Thompson Jones, Sr. He married Joan Gardner on March 15, 1958 in Monmouth, Illinois.
He is survived by two sons, Tim (Sandy) Jones of Knoxville, Illinois and David (Michelle) Jones of Knoxville, Illinois and one daughter Ann (Dan) Bowman of rural Milan, Illinois. Also surviving are several grandchildren: Keegan Jones, Haley Jones, Tessa Jones, Cody Jones, Hannah Jones, Damian Jones, Jacob Howell, Kathleen (Alex) North, Evan Bowman, Christina Shipano, Brian Shipano and Holden Shipano. Also surviving are two sisters, Connie Haptonstall of Monmouth, Illinois and Georgia (Charlie) Whitehall of Lake City, Illinois. George was preceded in death by his parents.
He was an auto mechanic, worked at Gates Rubber Company; he was also a landscaper and nurseryman. He owned and operated Timanda Nursery in Knoxville, Illinois. He was interested and active in his grandchildren’s education and sports.
He was a member of the Ford V-8 Club. He also coached Youth Baseball and was commissioner of the Youth Little League.
Cremation Rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, April 15, 2013 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville, Illinois. Graveside memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery in Monmouth, Illinois. David Shreeves will officiate.
