|Stanley R. Hendrix, 70, of Galesburg, died at 11:20 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2013 at home.
He was born July 8, 1942 in Carmi, Ill. the son of Clell and Hallie Canterbury Hendrix. He married Joyce S. Embry on February 21, 1969 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce of 44 years; three sons, Lannie (and fiancée Judy) Overton of Streamwood, Ill., Chuck (and Renée) Overton of Jacksonville, Ill. and Chris Hendrix of Galesburg; seven grandchildren, Steven, Ryan, Calibos, Josiah, Zach, Setira, and Luke; a great grandson, Aiden; and a brother, Stephen (and Lois) Hendrix of Lake Bracken, Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Spencer.
Stan was a laboratory technician at Gates Rubber Company for many years. After retirement from Gates, he worked as a courier for OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
Stan raced dwarf cars and also enjoyed NASCAR and riding his Harley.
He was a Vietnam War veteran, serving in the United States Navy.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Chuck Overton will officiate. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oneida Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
