|Keith F. Carter, 83, of Galva, died at 12:04 PM, Friday, April 12, 2013 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 16 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Rev. Ann Champion will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Galva Fire Department, the Galva Historical Society or to the Wiley House.
He was born August 5, 1929 in Galva, the son of Forrest and Ellen (Anderson) Carter. He married Rosemary Lamb on June 25, 1949 in Kewanee and she preceded him in death on January 17, 2009. Survivors include two sons, Roger Keith (Holly) Carter of Zionsville, IN and James Alan (Svetlana) Carter of St. Louis, MO and a granddaughter, Olga.
Keith graduated from Galva High School in 1947. He served the City of Galva as clerk and collector since 1977 and in 1979 was named city coordinator. He retired after 17 years of service to the city. Prior to joining the city, he had worked at Briegel Tool Company for over 30 years. He was a volunteer fireman for 41 years and chief for the last 17 of those years. Keith was a former director of the Galva Chamber of Commerce and had assisted with numerous civic projects. Annually, you would see him putting up and taking down Christmas decorations in the downtown area and he had also helped with the Veterans Park lighting project. He served as the secretary of the Galva Zoning Board of Appeals, vice-chairman of the Henry County Housing Authority and a director of the Youth Service Bureau. In 1991 he was honored by the Galva Masonic Lodge with its Community Builders Award and was honored as the 1992 Galva Citizen of the Year.
