Dale Francis Coffey age 86, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 12:40 AM at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois.

Dale was born November 12, 1926 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of Lyle Francis and Charlotte (Donaldson) Coffey. He married Mary K. Cooley on August 21, 1981 in Galesburg, Illinois. She preceded him in death on August 25, 2002.

He is survived by his loving family members, who cared for his health and well-being; brother, Ralph Coffey of Galesburg, Illinois, step-daughter, Kathy (Mike) Caves of Galesburg, special niece, Margo Archie Coffey of Galesburg, and a great-nephew, Jeff Dahl of Galesburg. He is also survived by two step-sons; John (Sandra) Cooley of Fort Worth, Texas, Mike (Nancy) Cooley of Cleveland, Ohio, two nieces; Laurie Sue Patterson of Galesburg, Cathy Lynn Huffman of Charleston, Illinois, nephew, Craig Michael Coffey of Yorkville, Illinois. Dale is also survived by 8 step-grandchildren, 10 step-great -grandchildren, numerous great-nieces and nephews, and several great-great-nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, parents, Charles and Charlotte, sister, Loraine "Rainy" Lynn and step-granddaughter, Amanda K. Cooley.

Dale proudly served his country in The United States Army as a Paratrooper for the 182nd Airborne Division. He later worked as an Auctioneer and owned Coffey Used Furniture in Galesburg. Dale was a proud member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg.

He enjoyed being in the outdoors fishing, hunting, and trap shooting. Dale loved dogs and frequently volunteered at the Knox County Humane Society. He was also proud of his red Chevy Truck.

Per his request cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will take place at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Galesburg, Illinois. Memorial donations may be left to the Knox County Humane Society, Knox County Nursing Home, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
