|Ruby B. Swigert, age 94 of RR Abingdon, died at 11:50 am Friday, May 31, 2013 at home.
She was born on April 23, 1919 on the family farm in Cedar Township near Abingdon, the daughter of Orville N. and Hazel Naomi (Pruitt) Courson. She married Gerald M. Swigert on July 28, 1940. He preceded her in death on October 23, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Naomi West, one son Bruce Swigert, one sister, Erma Jean Welty, two nephews Stephen and Charles Welty, Jr., and one niece Linda Morris.
Ruby is survived by two granddaughters, Sharon (and Rick) Logan of RR Abingdon and Barbara West of Costa Mesa, California; two great-grandchildren, Eric Logan of East Galesburg and Jennifer Terry of Dallas, Texas.
She had lived in the Abingdon area all her life. She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1937. She was a farm wife. She also worked at Fidelity Federal Saving s & Loan in Abingdon for 27 years and later worked for Care at Home and then at Hy-Vee in Galesburg for 13 years. She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. She was a charter member of the Abingdon Pottery Collectors Club, a member of Home Extension, and was a past 4-H leader. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, and watching the birds. She loved the farm.
Graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Rev. Darryl McDaniel will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
