|Vernon A. Mellentin of Galesburg, Illinois passed away in Galesburg, Illinois on June 3, 2013 at 12:35 AM.
He was born on July 2, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Arthur and Julia (Pottker) Mellentin. He married Joyce H. Hubele on February 25, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois. She preceded him in death on May 7, 2013.
They had two children; Robin C. and Jay S. Mellentin. She is also survived by her granddaughter Tammy L. Mellentin and Tammy’s mother Carrie L. Edson, three great-grandchildren; Nicole Marie Mellentin, Kimberly Joyce Mellentin, and Jason Earl Curtis.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
Vernon proudly served his country during WWII as a member of The United States Army. After his military service, he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He worked as a Design Engineer for several companies including; Hotpoint, Amana, Admiral and then retiring from Maytag. While at Amana he helped pioneer and design the household microwave that we still use today.
