|R. P. "Dick" Kinney, 78, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 5:49 AM Wednesday, June 5, 2013 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Ill.
Richard was born on June 2, 1935 in Red Oak, Iowa to Lisle and Elizabeth Marguerite Altaffer Kinney. He married Phyllis E. Kelley on June 29, 1958 in Elliott, Iowa. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Randall (and Ana) Kinney of Eldridge, Iowa and Richard (and Jennifer) Kinney, II of Bismarck, N.D.; a daughter, Kelley Kinney (and Daniel) Fredrickson of Towanda, Ill.; and ten grandchildren, Tabitha, Melissa, Connor, Jim, Tyler, Chase, John, Matt, Ben and Grace. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Kinney, and a sister, Mary Ann Kinney Reynolds.
R.P. was a supervisory agent for the BNSF Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1994.
He served in the Army during the Berlin Crisis from 1961 to 1962. He continued his service in the Army Reserves.
He was a 1953 graduate of Elliott High School. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a Reading Buddy at Nielson School. He gave many hours of volunteer work, including the Meals on Wheels program and the Stephen Ministry. He enjoyed refinishing furniture and watching the activities of his grandchildren. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, June 8, 2013 in the First United Methodist Church, Galesburg with Rev. Melva England officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Elliott, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be left at www.h-p-w.com.
