|Maurice L. "Tom" Thompson, age 71, of Abingdon and formerly of Moline and the Canton area, died at 3:20 pm Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Care Center of Abingdon.
He was born on December 5, 1941 in Farmers Township, Fulton County, the son of Maurice L. and Elsie Viola (Smith) Thompson.
Surviving is one brother, Kenneth (and Joyce) Thompson of Canton; a sister-in-law, DaNita Thompson of Abingdon. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, including a special nephew and caregiver, Todd R. Thompson of Abingdon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dale Thompson and Richard Thompson.
He grew up in Canton and graduated from Canton High School. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He lived most of his adult life in Moline where he worked and retired from J.I. Case as a combine inspector. He had been a resident at the Care Center of Abingdon the past 2 ½ years. He was of the Protestant faith.
Graveside Service and Military Rites conducted by the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post # 381 Honor Guard will be held at 11:00 am Monday June 10, 2013 at the Fiatt Cemetery near Fiatt. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
