|Gerald E. "Jerry" Goss, 72, of rural Galesburg, died at 10:50 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital following a hard fought battle with cancer.
He was born November 5, 1940 in Avon, Ill. the son of James Ernest and Kathryn Moore Goss. He married Rebecca "Becky" Murk on September 30, 1962 in Abingdon.
He is survived by his wife, Becky; two sons, James (and Deborah) Goss of Mahomet, Ill. and Robert (and Natalie) Goss of rural Galesburg; a daughter, Jane (and Robert) Griffith of Heyworth, Ill.; and seven grandchildren, Abigail and Charlotte Goss, Brad, Brett, and Kathryn Goss, and Emily and Tyler Griffith. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patricia Mullins.
Jerry was a farmer in Knox County for 54 years. He graduated from ROVA High School in 1958. Jerry was a member of the United Church of Oneida, Knox County Farm Bureau, and Knox County Pork Producers. He had been past president and on the board of Knoxville School District 202.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013 at United Church of Oneida. Rev. David Pyell will officiate. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.
