Mary Avis Richardson, 85, of Alexis, died at 4:18 P.M. Friday, July 12, 2013 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.

She was raised and educated in North Henderson and Alexis where she graduated from Alexis High School and then attended Bradley University and Western Illinois University.

Mary Avis married Lewis B. Richardson on May 17, 1946 in Monmouth and he preceded her in death on October 12, 2001.

She was a teacher having taught kindergarten in Alexis and P.E. at Yorkwood High School and also did substitute teaching. For the last 20 years she had served as the Librarian in Alexis. She also had served as the Alexis Village Clerk for many years.

She was member of the Alexis Presbyterian Church, Alexis Women’s Club, Order of Eastern Star, Red Hat Society and had served with the Alexis North Henderson Ambulance Service.

Her family includes three daughters, Linda (Dick) Miller of Alexis, Debra Leonhart of Viola and Sandy Sharer of Minneapolis, MN, eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and one great great grand child.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Willis L. “Bill” Phippipson and one sister, JoAnne Borford.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis with Rev. Sue Shike. Burial will be in Alexis Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 P.M. on Monday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis where her family will be present from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
