|H. Ray Young, 91, of Galva, passed away at 4:50 PM, Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Hillcrest Home in rural Geneseo.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 14 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Pastor Bob Curry will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM, Friday, September 13 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Galva Congregational Church.
He was born February 6, 1922 in Rushville, IL, the son of Herschel and Elsie (Armour) Young. He married Pauline W. Watson on March 10, 1944 in Galesburg and she preceded him in death on November 10, 2004. Survivors include two sons, Jim (Ruth) Young of Metamora, IL and Hugh Young of Lees Summit, MO, a daughter, Marlene (Rodger) Manning of Galva, five grandchildren, Kathy Johnson, Rob Manning, Jason Young, Amy Lindsay and Wendy Pittman and ten great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
H. Ray graduated from Blandinsville High School and from Western Illinois Teachers College. He taught chemistry, physics and general science in the Galva School District for 35 years and in Buckley, IL for two years. He also worked at Fan Steel Metallurgical Corp. in North Chicago for two years. He attended the Galva Congregational Church and had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Galva where he had been a Deacon, church Treasurer and had taught adult Sunday School for 50 years. He was a member of the Galva Lions Club where he was a Past President from 1974-75 and Secretary for 24 years and had been a member of the Henry-Stark Retired Teachers. He enjoyed camping, gardening and traveling.
