|Merle B. Nelson, 92, of Galesburg, died at 12:51 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013 in Rosewood Care Center.
She was born December 2, 1920 in Knoxville the daughter of Alva and Elfreda "Ella" Hanson West. She married Levi C. Nelson in 1939. He preceded her in death on March 9, 1971.
She is survived by five daughters, Marsha Arnold of Galesburg, Alfreda (and Jerry) Bowen of Galesburg, Polly (and Dave) Guerin of Galesburg, Patricia (and Chris) Lavely of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Shelley (and Richard) Winkler of Galesburg; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Merle was a dietician for 25 years before retiring. She had worked at Knox College, St. Mary's Hospital, and the Harrington Home. She was raised and educated in Knoxville, graduating from Knoxville High School in 1938. She was of Lutheran faith.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. James Ecklund will officiate. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel.
