|Marion L. Erwin, age 90 of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, died at 6:45 pm Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born on September 2, 1922 in Galesburg, the daughter of John and Mary (Paulsgrove) Turney. She married William Wayne Erwin in 1941 in Galesburg. They later divorced. They had one adopted son, William A. Erwin and he preceded her in death on July 20, 2004.
Marion is survived by her daughter-in-law, Kay Erwin of Valparaiso, Indiana; two grandsons, David (Penny Haras) Erwin and Michael (Jean) Erwin all of Chicago; one great-granddaughter, Samantha Erwin; and one sister, Shirley Redding of Harrison, Arkansas.
She grew up on a farm near Lake Bracken and moved to Abingdon when she was in the 5th grade. She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1941. She had lived in Galesburg the past 34 years. She worked as a receptionist at Galesburg Medial Arts for 16 years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church, the Abingdon Garden Club, the Abingdon High School Half Century Club, and she was a charter member of the Abingdon Pottery Collectors Club. Her hobbies included doing crafts and reading.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Darryl McDaniel will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Thursday at the chapel.
