|Crescent Edward "Ed" Worden, Jr., 85, of Monmouth, formerly of Galesburg, died at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, November 18, 2012 in Monmouth Nursing Home.
He was born July 25, 1927 in Galesburg the son of Crescent Edward and Victoria Swanson Worden Sr. He married Doris L. Smith in Abingdon, Ill. on June 9, 1951.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Jerry Alan (and Libby) Worden of Normal, Ill.; a daughter, Therese (and Jeff) Rankin of Monmouth; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother, Thomas (and Judy) Worden of Galesburg; and a sister, Joan Webber of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Eileen Nelson.
Ed graduated from Galesburg High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy for 1 1/2 years during World War II, stationed in the Pacific.
He worked as an engineer for Burlington Northern Railroad for 40 years. He retired June 30, 1990. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and had served as an usher there for several years. Ed enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, fishing, and helping his neighbors in their yards. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, November 23, 2012 in Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Rev. William Miller will officiate. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Cremation will be accorded following the mass. Memorials may be made to Monmouth Nursing Home.
