|Jim Conway, 92, of Roseville, IL died peacefully at home surrounded by his sons on Friday November 23, 2012, at 11:45 am.
Jim was born on on September 22, 1920 at the family homestead in Camden, IL near the junction of Jordan and Conway roads, the 6th and 7th children of Robert Morrison and Anna Dorothy Jucker Conway. Jim was a student at the one-room elementary school house at the junction, after which he attended Camden High School for three years and then graduated from Rushville High in 1938. Jim and his brothers Gerald and Harold enlisted together in the Illinois National Guard in November, 1940. Shortly after, Jim and Gerald's unit was re-designated as the 208th Field Artillery Group. During WWII, their group supported the 3rd Army landing in Omaha Beach on day 8, participating in the Battle of the Bulge, and arriving to liberate the Dachau Concentration Camp one day after discovery.
On furlough while still stateside, Jim met Lois Evelyn Armstrong, and they married six months later on December 17, 1942 at the Rushville Home of his sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Loren Jones. She remained the love of his life and his devoted wife and helpmate until her death on July 16, 2001. Jim was a farmer all his life in the Monmouth and Berwick communities, finally retiring at the age of 74, several years after moving to Roseville in 1989. In addition to raising two sons, Stanley Curtis and Henry Dean, both Jim and Lois were active in their community and their church. Jim was a member of the Warren County Farm Bureau, he was a Berwick Volunteer Firefighter, he served on the board of Directors for the Berwick Grain Company, and he was a Deacon, Trustee and Chior Member of the Berwick Baptist Church where he was baptized in 1957.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Robert & Anna; siblings and their spouses Lyle (Frances), Robert (Beulah), Catherine, Gerald (Helen), Harold, Marjorie (Loren); and his wife Lois. He is survived by his sons Stan (Pat) of Evergreen, CO, and Dean (Vicky) of Roseville, IL; grandchildren; AJ (Sabrina), Michael (Caressa), Kevin, Lisa, and Matthew; great-grandchildren Cody, Krista, Paytan, Lilyan, Skylar, Carson and Olyvia; Step-great-grandchildren Austin, Alyssa, and Colby Hughes and step great-great-grandchild Gracie Hughes.
Memorial service will be Tuesday November 27, 2012, 11:00 am at the Roseville Baptist Church. Family will recieve friends on Monday eve November 26, 2012 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Corman Memorial Home Roseville, IL. Burial will be at a later date in the Roseville Memorial Park Cemetery.
