|Dorothy M. Ericson, 102 of Galva, passed away at 5:35 PM, Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 3 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Rev. Ann Champion will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Galva.
She was born October 5, 1910 in Marissa, IL, the daughter of James and Nellie (Manuel) Harland. She married Carl William “Bill” Ericson on March 23, 1940 in Peoria and he preceded her in death on January 12, 1985. Survivors include a son, Dan Ericson of Galva, a daughter, Ava (Paul) Brown of Machesney Park, IL, a sister, Althea Schultz of Davenport, IA, four grandchildren, Jeff (Tracey) Brown of Manhattan Beach, CA, Jodi (Mike) Mohr of Machesney Park, IL, Jennifer Brown of Evanston, IL and Jason (Alisha) Brown of Peoria and seven great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and five sisters.
Dorothy graduated from Victoria High School and then from Western Illinois Teachers College. In the 1930's and 40's she taught at three different one room schools in Knox County and then from 1956-73 she was an elementary teacher at F.V. White School in Galva. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed gardening and reading.
