|Sheryl A. (Dykeman) Trout, 78, of East Galesburg, Ill, passed into Our Lord's Hands peacefully with family in her home at 12:58AM Sunday, November 25, 2012. Sheryl was born March 14, 1934 near Farmington, Ill. the daughter of Leo Clyde Dykeman and Ferne (Bybee) Dykeman.
She attended two country one room grade schools; one near Prairie City and another near Victoria, IL. Then the rest of grade school and her sophomore year at high school was in Alexis, Ill. Her parents Leo and Ferne Dykeman along with herself, brother Roger and sister Leah operated the FERN Theater in Alexis, Ill. from 1946-1950. Sheryl attended her junior and senior years of high school at Williamsfield, Ill. when her parents moved there from Alexis. She became Williamsfield High Schools first Homecoming Queen in 1951.
She married William Alvin Trout on Aug. 28, 1952 in Pocahontas, AR. They had 3 children, John born in 1953, Mark born in 1957 and Cindy born in 1961.
In Bill and Sheryl's early years of marriage they lived briefly on Pearl St. and East Fremont St. in Galesburg, Ill. In 1957 her family moved to a farm at RR. #1 located northwest of Galesburg at Henderson Grove. There her family attended the Henderson Grove Church and the children went to the adjacent Henderson Grove Grade School. Later in life she lived at 1401 Maple for many years before moving to her present home in East Galesburg.
Her son Mark passed away in 1982 and her husband Bill passed away in 1988. Her daughter Cindy married Greg E. Jackson in 1990 and they provided Sheryl with her beloved Grandchild named Gregory E. Jackson Jr. who was born on March 30, 1995.
She was a faithful member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Henderson Grove whose members recently took turns bringing her and the family meals. Her Church also sponsored a "Sheryl Trout Benefit" dinner on November 3, 2012 to help her and family with recent expenses. She was a staunch believer in God, her Family and Country. She was a former election judge and, as she was still capable, she voted by absentee ballot prior to November 6, 2012 the Presidential Election. She was a kind and charitable friend to all and a neighbor that could always be called on when in need. But her first and greatest love in life was her family as could be witnessed on her kitchen calendar which was covered monthly with family membersí birthdays, anniversaries and gatherings. She loved her home in Columbia Heights, cooking for others, working in the yard, flowers and gardening.
Sheryl was a wife, mother, and farmer. She later worked for several years at the Fremont St. Pizza Hut. While working there she also went to Carl Sandburg College for Nursing Classes. After her graduation she was a LPN at St. Mary's Hospital for 25 years until she retired in 2003.
She is survived by a son, John W. Trout of Galesburg; a daughter, Cindy A. (Greg) Jackson and grandson, Gregory E. Jackson Jr. of Monmouth, Ill., a brother, Roger (Norma) Dykeman of Galesburg and a sister, Leah (Pat) Strom of Williamsfield.
The Family would like to thank everyone for all of their support, cards, kind thoughts and prayers during the recent months.
