|Mrs. M. Blanche Shafman, 88, of Kalispell, MT, formerly of Galesburg, IL, died Friday, November 1, 2013 in Brendan House Nursing Home Kalispell, Mont.
She was born September 6, 1925 in Berwick, IL, the daughter of Hugh C. and Mona Mae Kneen Weir, Sr. She married Henry M. Shafman in Galesburg on September 29, 1946. He preceded her in death on October 22, 1990.
She is survived by her son, David B. and Malinda Shafman of Columbia Falls, MT; one brother, John E. and Kay Weir of Palatine, IL; and one granddaughter, Kimberly and Andrew Lwere and greatgrandson Jesiah Lwere. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, C. Lee, Hugh C. and Thomas K Weir and two sisters, Ann Colclasure and Shirley Brown.
Blanche worked as a registered nurse for over 50 years. She worked at Galesburg Cottage Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1985. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1943 and Cottage Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She was a member of the Cottage Hospital Alumni and Cottage Hospital Historical Association Alumni. She was a member of the Knox and Warren County Genealogical Society. She served as a board member of the Wyatt Earp Birthplace Association. Blanche was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was involved in the LOGOS Youth Program.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2013 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Rev. Glen W. Bocox will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Wyatt Earp Birthplace Museum Memorial Fund, Galesburg Community Foundation or to the First United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.
