|Louis P. Vitali, 93, of Galesburg, died at 5:45 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013 in Seminary Manor.
He was born February 19, 1920 in Galesburg, the son of James and Catherine (Asnicar) Vitali. He married Sue Belle Tuggle on September 8, 1951.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sue; a daughter, Nancy Webber of Galesburg; five grandchildren, Robby (and Jody) Vitali, Kristina (and Dave) Sellard, Kristy Webber, Jason (and Brooke) Webber, and Zack Webber; and five great grandchildren, Bell, Myli, Olivia, Khloe, and Landyn. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Louis S. Vitali on October 8, 2002; two brothers, George and Joe Vitali; and six sisters, Edwina Watters, Emma Trettenero, Della Vitali, Mary Oaks, Lena Bell, and Marjorie Burkhardt.
Louis was a salesman for 55 years working for Black Brothers Hardware for 15 years, Leo Stein Sporting Goods for 20 years, and Haehnel-Reynolds Restaurant Supply for 10 years. He retired in 1985. He was a lifelong Galesburg resident who graduated from Galesburg High School in 1938. Louis was a member of First Baptist Church and served on its Board of Deacons and volunteered in the nursery.
He served in the United States Air Transport Command for nearly four years. He was a Tech Sgt. and was stationed in the United States and Puerto Rico.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, November 11, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Daniel Siems will officiate. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Cremation will follow the funeral with burial 1 p.m. Tuesday in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or a charity of the donorís choice.
