|Ruth M. Longcor, 85, of Galesburg, died at 10:40 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2013 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born March 25, 1928 in Galesburg the daughter of Lloyd R. and Gertrude A. (Eggers) Shinn Sr. She married Herschel E. Longcor Sr. on April 29, 1947 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death July 23, 1985.
She is survived by two sons, Phillip E. Longcor Sr. of Knoxville, and Jimmy (and Cindy) Longcor of Galesburg; a daughter, Trudy (and Dan) Cherrington of Galesburg; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Wilma Schubert of Peoria and Mari Vitale of Collinsville, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, a daughter, and a brother.
Ruth had worked at the former Custer Hotel, Knox Laundry, and Golden Nugget. She was also a homemaker. She had lived in Galesburg her entire life and was a member of First Baptist Church. Ruth was also a member of Women of the Moose Lodge #115 and the Blind Center. She served as the publicity director for the Midwestern Country Music Association.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Daniel Siems will officiate. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the family or the American Heart Association.
