|Norma Jean Brahmstedt, 81, of Ophiem, Illinois, died F riday, November 15, 2013, at Heartland Health Care Center in Moline. Services are 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church in Ophiem. Burial will be in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Ophiem. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Monday at the Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Grace Lutheran Church. Norma Jean was born August 1, 1932 in Galesburg, Illinois to Marion and Clara Brown Riley. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1950. She married Arthur Brahmstedt Jr. October 20, 1962, in Galesburg, Illinois.
After graduating from high school, she was employed by Accounting Systems in Galesburg. She then worked at CASE in Bettendorf and Case IH in Rock Island and East Moline, retiring in 1997.
Her memberships included Grace Lutheran Church in Ophiem, American Legion Post 1197 Auxiliary. She enjoyed hummingbirds, quilting, sewing, gardening, antiquing and being outdoors. Norma Jean played the violin for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur; two daughters, Cindy Meirhaeghe of Woodhull, Illinois; Sara Brahmstedt of Galesburg, Illinois; one son, Carl G. Brahmstedt of Denver, Colorado; 10 grandchildren, Lori, David, Nikki, Chelsey, Ryan, Lainey, Brandy, Cierra, O’Brion and Tre’Anna; 7 great grandchildren with one lovingly expected; one sister, Fern C. Pumfrey of Galesburg, Illinois; one brother, Dale H. Riley of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Richard; and two sisters, Ruby and Edith.
