|Margaret Louise Mehltretter, 94, of Sanibel, FL, formerly of the Lake Calhoun area and Peoria passed away at 3:50 PM, Monday, December 3, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Westmont, IL.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, December 11 at St. John's Catholic Church in Galva. Celebrant will be Rev. John Burns. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Thomas Hospice in Hinsdale, IL. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is in charge of arrangements.
Margaret was born April 10, 1918 in Normal, IL, the daughter of Fred and Anna (Giering) Schroeder. She married Charles L. Mehltretter Sr. on December 26, 1941 in Bloomington and he preceded her in death on August 10, 1991. Survivors include a son, Charles Mehltretter Jr. of Peoria, a daughter, Nancy (Michael) Otten of Westmont, IL, three grandchildren, Brigitte Bill, Nathalie Arbuckle and Michelle Otten, four great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and four sisters.
Margaret graduated from Illinois Sate University in Normal. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Galva and St. Isabel Church in Sanibel, FL. Margaret loved nature; she was an avid flower gardener, a bird watcher and a sheller on the Sanibel beaches. She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed playing bridge and reading as a member of several book clubs. She also loved art and found enjoyment in doing watercolor paintings.
