Groce Set to Build from Ground Up at Illinois
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- A year ago John Groce was starting from scratch at Illinois.

That turned out pretty well: The Illini went 23-13 and made the NCAA tournament.

Now the coach finds himself in some ways starting over again. The team will lose six players to graduation and transfers.

Groce said Tuesday he will probably use at least one of the three scholarships he has right away. He said he could pursue a graduate student transfer or someone else.

Groce said he will also look for serious improvement from returning starters Nnanna Egwu and Tracy Abrams. And the coach says he'll look for some of the five freshmen Illinois is adding to contribute right away.
