The season came to an end yesterday for most of the Galesburg High School golfers, even though they had good showings at the Sectional Tournaments. The Silver Streaks girls finished 5th at the Class 2A event in Normal, while the boys were 8th at the Champaign Sectional. (Jackson Wetherbee led the boys with a round of 80, but no one was able to qualify for this weekend's state meet. For the girls, Jessica Leiber was the low scorer with an 87, tieing her for 9th place, and allowing her to play at the state event on Friday.)
Knoxville's Taylor Thompson was the winner at yesterdays class 1A Lincoln Sectional. Thompson carded a round of 78, and won the title in a one-hole playoff with North Fulton's Lexi Peterson. United's Justine Peel also qualified for the state tournament, as she shot an 84 to finish in a tie for 7th place.
Tonight's high school volleyball schedule finds the Galesburg girls traveling to Peoria Notre Dame. Other teams in action tonight include ROWVA at Ridgewood; United at Mercer County; and Monmouth-Roseville hosts Macomb. Both of Galesburg's college teams will play tonight as well, as Knox goes to Mt. Vernon, Iowa to play Cornell, while the Carl Sandburg Chargers host Black Hawk East.
