Girls Basketball

The pairings have been released for the Charleston girls holiday basketball tournament, where the Galesburg Silver Streaks will be defending their title again this year. The Streaks are in a pool of teams that will see them playing Paris on December 27th at 5:30pm, followed by a pair of games on the 28th against Urbana and Charleston. The results of the pool-play in the eight-team field will then determine the brackets for the final day of action on Saturday the 29th. The other teams involved in the tournament this year include Effingham, Rantoul, Taylorville, and Decatur Eisenhower.

In girls basketball tonight, the Abingdon-Knoxville Tournament continues, with a pair of games at each venue. In Abingdon, Illini Bluffs meets Farmington in the early game, followed by ROWVA against United. In Knoxville, B-PC/Avon plays West Central in the opener, while the nightcap matches a pair of unbeaten teams--Rock Island vs. Brimfield.

Boys Basketball

In boys hoops, the action at the ROWVA-Ridgewood Tournament shifts to Woodhull tonight, as United plays Williamsfield in the opener of the three games on the schedule. The second game pits ROWVA against Prophetstown, and the finale has Ridgewood playing Mercer County. Winners of last night's opening games in Oneida were Williamsfield, ROWVA, and Ridgewood.

Other boys games on the schedule for tonight include North Fulton at Farmington and B-PC/Avon at Galva.

College Women's Hoops

The Monmouth College women's basketball team has cracked the top-25 in a pair of national polls. The Fighting Scots are ranked #24 in the USA Today Sports Coaches' Poll....marking the first time in the program's 39-year history that the team has received a national ranking. The Fighting Scots women (and men) will host rival Knox this Sunday.

College Football

The Knox football team's defensive standout has received yet another post-season honor. Linebacker Mike Hendrick today was named to the American Football Coaches Division 3 All-America team. Hendrick, who is Knox's all-time leader in tackles, in the only player from the Midwest Conference on this year's Division 3 team. He led the league with 133 tackles this past season.
