CHICAGO (AP) — The University of Iowa community is remembering a student from suburban Chicago who died after being seriously injured earlier this year while studying abroad.
Twenty-year-old Andrew Mogni died Sunday from serious injuries sustained in a fall on Jan. 14, shortly after he arrived in Rome. He was a third-year finance major from Glen Ellyn, Illinois, who was participating in a semester-long program at John Cabot University.
The university said initial police reports indicated the fall was an accident but authorities are investigating the possibility that Mogni was robbed.
The Chicago Tribune reports Mogni’s fraternity, Sigma Nu, is organizing a public candlelight vigil on campus. His fraternity brothers also are planning to perform a private ritual to honor Mogni.
The chapter’s president says it’s more about celebrating Mogni’s life than mourning his death.
