CHICAGO (AP) — The Cook County Sheriff’s office says an arrest warrant has been issued for the father of a 3-year-old who was found alone near a suburban Chicago forest preserve.
The warrant issued Thursday charges 35-year-old Faiz Ikramulla with aggravated kidnapping. Ikramulla, whose hometown was not given, is currently being held in Michigan’s Van Buren County Jail.
Sheriff’s officials say their investigation indicates the child was left by Ikramulla in the forest preserve located in Prospect Heights.
The girl could only provide her first name after being found. She was positively identified after sheriff’s investigators learned the child’s mother was in the process of filing missing person reports for the child and Ikramulla.
Illinois authorities were notified Wednesday that Ikramulla was in custody in Michigan.
Authorities say Ikramulla’s return to Illinois is pending an extradition hearing.
