$3M Federal Grant To Ease Chicago Commuter Rail Congestion

CHICAGO (AP) — A $3 million federal grant will help ease congestion that slows Metra commuter trains heading into Chicago’s Union Station from the south and southwest.

U.S. Reps. Dan Lipinski and Mike Quigley along with U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin announced the grant Friday.

The money will help the Illinois Department of Transportation develop a plan to improve the efficiency of those commuter rail lines.

A news release from Lipinski’s office said the work will reduce congestion, boost economic growth and improve the quality of life for residents.
