Evanston Offering Restaurant Health Scores Via Text

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Anyone wanting the lowdown on a restaurant in the Chicago suburb of Evanston can get health inspection scores sent to them by text message.

The city announced Thursday that residents and visitors can text the name of a restaurant to the city’s 311 service center and get a message back with the score within seconds.

Evanston says it believes it’s one of only a few government agencies in the country to offer the service.

City IT Division Manager Jose Calderon says it’s part of Evanston’s efforts to make city data more accessible to the public.
