Chicago Woman Charged with Fabricating Kidnapping Story

CHICAGO (AP) — Authorities say a 39-year-old South Chicago woman filed a false police report about being kidnapped and held in an abandoned building for three days.

Chicago police say Veronica Fuentes was arrested and charged with felony disorderly conduct for filing a false report after she recanted her story about the alleged kidnapping.

Police say Fuentes originally reported that a male approached her and struck her on the back of the head while she was standing at a bus stop last Saturday. They say Fuentes told detectives that she was dragged to a vacant building nearby and held against her will by three men until she escaped on Tuesday.

Police say Fuentes eventually admitted to fabricating the story.

It wasn’t immediately known if she has an attorney.
