SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — A convicted Tennessee sex offender accused of trying to lure an Illinois teenager into a sexual relationship has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports that a federal judge in Springfield sentenced Joseph Cain Harrison on Friday. The 38-year-old is from the Nashville suburb of LaVergne.
He was found guilty in December of enticement of a minor, travel with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct and committing a felony sex offense on a minor while a registered sex offender.
His first trial on the charges ended in a mistrial after Harrison collapsed in a hallway outside the courtroom and had to be hospitalized.
Prosecutors say Harrison used the Internet and a cellphone to try to lure a 12-year-old Champaign girl to have sex.
