This year’s festival will feature five days of literary, history, and children’s events for the community in Galesburg.
Sandburg days is an honor to the man himself—Carl Sandburg, who was a Galesburg born two-time Pulitzer Prize winning poet and Abraham Lincoln biographer.
A number of featured speakers will be present throughout the week, including appearances by best-selling author Jennifer Niven, poetry slam movement founder Marc K. Smith, and internationally acclaimed painter and sculptor Lonnie Eugene Stewart.
Stewart had a hand in an additional event taking place this year as well. A near 10-foot tall Sandburg sculpture designed by Stewart will be dedicated in a groundbreaking ceremony at Galesburg’s Central Park Wednesday morning.
Writer’s workshops, a five-mile bike ride, and dedication of the Sandburg Historical Site as a literary landmark are just a few of the scheduled events.
Sandburg College, the Galesburg Public Library, the Civic Art Center, and Knox College are all event hosts this year.
The festival will conclude Saturday evening.
