Suburban Woman Creates Anti-Bullying Scholarship

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (AP) — A suburban Palatine woman is leading an effort to raise money for an anti-bullying scholarship.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports  that Pamela Olander’s scholarship is in honor of former Fremd High School student Johnny Trout.

Olander tells the Daily Herald she was inspired by another classmate who wrote an email detailing his remorse over not stepping in when Trout was teased and bullied.

She intends to make it the Class of `75’s gift to this and future classes at the Palatine school.

The class reunion is in August. But Olander plans to hand out the first scholarships at the end of this school year.

Trout died of a heart attack in April 2011 when he was 53.
