Galesburg Fire Marshal Resigns To Serve Overseas

galesburg fire patchA longtime fire marshal has submitted his letter of resignation to use his skill-sets in a new environment.

52-year-old Galesburg Fire Marshal Dan Foley announced yesterday, that he and his family will begin the process of moving to India, in order to initiate a fire service program as well as a life there.

Foley says, he will first stop in Morocco for 11-days to do service work with his church. Following a short stint in Bloomington, Illinois after that–the marshal says he will visit Kenya to work with the Africa Fire Mission program–an organization that provides equipment and services to departments in the country who don’t have access to quality resources.

Foley tells WGIL, the move has always been a dream of his.

“Even in my 20’s I applied for the peace corps and started working through the process, before I decided to stay home and work at our photo store,” says Foley. “The kind of work that we want to do in India is kind of like the peace corps, but with a faith-based purpose. It’s exciting to me to be able to any kind of work in another country.”

Foley says he has had an awesome experience with GFD, and that “he is proud of the Galesburg department for being forward thinking.” Foley’s last day will be June 1st. He flies to Morocco the next day.
