Coroner: Springfield Man’s Body Found Behind Shopping Center

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Officials in Sangamon County have identified a man whose body was found behind a Springfield shopping center.

WTAX-AM reports Tuesday that Sangamon County Coroner Cinda Edwards says autopsy results didn’t find foul play or trauma were responsible for the death of 49-year-old Matthew Lewis. He is from Springfield but originally from Peoria.

Edwards says it’s likely the Lewis’ body was behind The Gables shopping center for multiple days. Blood test results are pending.

Lewis’ body was found behind a women’s clothing store near air conditioning units. The coroner says he was pronounced dead Monday afternoon. The case remains under investigation.
