Gov Rauner To Address Chicago’s City Council

CHICAGO (AP) — Gov. Bruce Rauner is scheduled to address Chicago’s City Council.

Rauner spokesman Mike Schrimpf says the governor will speak during Wednesday’s meeting and looks forward to addressing the city’s and state’s “financial and economic challenges.”

Rauner’s speech follows his addressing of several issues involving Chicago.

Earlier this week, Rauner reiterated his stance on being open to building a casino in Chicago, which Mayor Rahm Emanuel has been pushing for. State lawmakers have endorsed the idea previously, but Rauner’s predecessor, Pat Quinn, vetoed the plans.

Rauner has also noted in recent weeks that Chicago Public Schools should consider filing for bankruptcy to restructure debt and contracts. Emanuel has scoffed at the idea.

Rauner has been traveling the state promoting an agenda which includes program funding cuts and reforming regulations affecting business.
