Galesburg PD Joins Click It or Ticket Campaign To Save Lives

IL-GalesburgPDThe Galesburg Police Department is taking a stand to enforce seat belt laws this month.

GPD recently announced that it would join with hundreds of other law enforcement agencies across the state for the 2015 Illinois Click it or Ticket Campaign.

Lt. Russ Idle essentially says the action is in support of seat belt use during Memorial Day Weekend coming up. Idle says the department “wants to ensure that everyone arrives at their destination safe and sound.”

The department plans to issue tickets to anyone in the front or back seats not wearing a seat restraint. A 2014 survey by IDOT shows that back seat riders only wore their seat belt around 84 percent of the time.

According to a press release, back seat passengers not wearing seat belts accounted for 24 fatalities in data collected from 2013.

Idle says “local motorists should be prepared to buckle up, and that the department will be cracking down around the clock.”

Click it or Ticket runs through May 25th.
