Animal Control Officers Seize Peoria Man’s Pet Alligator

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — Animal control officers have seized a pet alligator from a Peoria man’s home.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reports  that an anonymous tip led officers to the home on Thursday afternoon. Once they arrived, 51-year-old resident Ralph Mohr voluntarily brought the alligator out to their truck. Mohr was wearing thick protective gloves and the young American alligator was covered in a blue flannel blanket. Its tail was thrashing and it had a band around its jaw.

Mohr slid the animal into the Peoria County Animal Protective Society truck as officers quickly latched the truck’s gate closed.

Mohr told officers the animal was purchased legally in another state.

Police made no arrests. No one was injured.
