The Galesburg City Council will meet in a work session tonight to discuss video gaming parlors throughout the city, and whether or not any regulations should be put in place for them.
Tonight’s discussion could be fairly broad in nature, however, recent laws put in place in Peoria as well as a state law proposed by State Senator Darin LaHood have been topics of late.
In April, Peoria enacted a regulation against gambling parlors, stating that at least 80 percent of their sales must come from the sale of food and alcohol or beverages.
Senator LaHood is proposing a similar law take effect statewide.
In Galesburg, a number of parlors have come to town in recent years — Suzi’s Video Poker & Slots and Discount Tobacco Warehouse on North Henderson Street. Both are required to hold liquor licenses through the city.
No formal proposals from the city have been put in place for tonight’s meeting, but aldermen are expected to begin discussions on whether or not they may take action in the future.
The two other agenda items for tonight include the city’s 2016 financial forecast and FY 2016 budget.
