Sheriff Says Western Illinois Woman Found Shot Dead

NAUVOO, Ill. (AP) — Officials in western Illinois say a 67-year-old woman was killed when bullets were fired into her home outside Nauvoo (NAH’-voo).

Hancock County Sheriff Scott Bentzinger says the victim was Nanci Culp. She died Thursday morning. The sheriff tells The Quincy Herald-Whig that investigators found Culp’s home was shot several times.

An autopsy was scheduled Friday. Bentzinger says Illinois State Police also were investigating the death.

Authorities say a suspect is in custody but no charges have been filed.

Nauvoo is on the Mississippi River about 50 miles north of Quincy.
