CHICAGO (AP) — A suburban Chicago automobile museum has decided to remove from display an antique auto once owned by indicted former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert.
The Volo Auto Museum on Wednesday removed a 1942 Lincoln Zephyr on display at the Illinois Tollway’s Belvidere Oasis and put in its place a 1941 Buick.
Museum owner Brian Grams says Hastert sold the car to the museum in 2007.
Grams acknowledged the car “didn’t hurt anybody,” and the fact Hastert owned it can’t change. However, because the museum is a family place “we’ll just put it under wraps.”
Hastert on Tuesday pleaded not guilty to charges he violated banking rules and lied to the FBI about promising to pay $3.5 million in hush money to conceal misconduct from his days as a high school teacher.
