ALTON, Ill. (AP) — A 29-year-old Alton woman has been charged with felony child endangerment in connection with the fatal suffocation of her 4-month-old son.
Madison County prosecutors say Marcus Covington Jr. died in mid-February after his mother, Sharron Braxton, rolled on top of the child in the middle of the night.
Braxton was charged Thursday but had not yet been arrested. Authorities say she had been drinking before falling asleep.
Braxton faces between two and five years in prison if convicted. Online court records did not list an attorney working on her behalf.
