Ex-Chicago Hospital Owner Pleads Not Guilty in Fraud Case

CHICAGO (AP) – A former owner of a Chicago hospital who was charged years ago with federal perjury and obstruction of justice has returned to the United States and pleaded not guilty in the case.
During a brief hearing in federal court Friday, prosecutors said that he’s if convicted of the four counts, Peter G. Rogan faces a maximum 50 years in prison and $1 million fine.

Rogan was in Canada until this week when he waived extradition and surrendered to federal marshals on Thursday. He remains in federal custody.

Rogan was charged in connection with a scheme in which he and others at the now-shuttered Edgewater Hospital allegedly bilked government health programs out of tens of millions of dollars. Several others have already pleaded guilty.
