Heavy Rains Contribute to Flooding in Parts of Illinois

LINCOLN, Ill. (AP) – The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for several rivers in Illinois and transportation officials have closed some roadways.
The weather service says the rising Embarras River at Lawrenceville in southeastern Illinois has inundated Lumber Mill Road. The river is expected to fall below flood stage Thursday.

The Little Wabash River near Clay City in southern Illinois is also under a flood warning. The weather service says North Clay Road is flooded there.

The Sangamon River at Monticello in central Illinois is under a flood warning until Sunday afternoon.

Moderate flooding is occurring along the Illinois River at Beardstown and other cities in central Illinois. The weather service says the river has flooded a parking lot in Peoria’s Riverfront Village and one block of Water Street.
