WOODSTOCK, Ill. (AP) – A northern Illinois man has been sentenced to 135 years in prison after being convicted of shooting two McHenry County sheriff’s deputies at his home last year. Fifty-two-year-old Scott Peters of Holiday Hills was sentenced on Thursday.
He was convicted on more than a dozen charges, including seven counts of attempted murder of a police officer.
Authorities allege Peters fired more than a dozen rounds from a semi-automatic rifle at sheriff’s deputies who responded on an early morning in October 2014 to a report of a domestic disturbance. Peters fled afterward and eluded police for 16 hours. Deputies Khalia Satkiewicz and Dwight Maness were injured by gunfire. Maness now uses a wheelchair.
Peters’ defense attorneys say he thought he was firing at someone trying to break into his home.
