Sandburg Estimates $500,000 Funding Loss for Fiscal Year 2016

Carl Sandburg CollegeCarl Sandburg College estimates that it will lose nearly $500,000 in state funding for the 2016 Fiscal Year.

According to a press release, the College learned about the cuts last week through the Illinois Community College Board.

Carl Sandburg College has faced nearly 69 percent in losses of state funding since 2008.

President Dr. Lori Sundberg tells WGIL that they try to avoid cuts that impact students, but at some point these losses will affect them.

“We always try to not make any sort of cuts that are going to effect students,” says Sundberg. “We try to look for other places, but as we begin to get into these deeper cuts that we are having, it ultimately will effect students at some point. Community colleges will not be able to offer the full scale of programs that we currently offer.”

The college expects to receive only $164,000 in equalization funding for the 2016 fiscal year, which is 94% less than they received in 2008.

Sundberg says the administration and Board of Trustees will have to meet to re-evaluate the fiscal year 2016 budget with these losses.
