CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago’s Pride Parade isn’t until Sunday but crowds are already turning out to celebrate the Supreme Court’s gay marriage ruling.
Several hundred people packed Sidetrack, a North Side bar where the gay community has gathered since the 1980s to celebrate victories and losses.
A rally is planned for up the street Friday night.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel got emotional while addressing the crowd and thanking them for speaking up and speaking out over the years.
Openly gay state Rep. Kelly Cassidy spoke eloquently about the pain of having when people tell her young sons that their family is “less” than others. She says the ruling will help change attitudes.
