3rd Ward Alderman Toby Myers tells WGIL that the sewage line lift needed to be replaced anyway from old age.
“The sewer line is just outdated,” says Myers. ” It’s 20 years old, well, the lift station is, and it’s expected to fail at 25 years. That’s the biggest thing, we need to get it fixed.”
A water line would need to also be put in at the location, but after long talks about cost, the council agreed that the water line should wait. Myers says they will wait to put in the water line until after Knox County finishes the road to the Knox County Nursing Home.
“We’re thinking about doing the sewer first, and then once Knox County develops the road, then come across with water,” says Myers.
Also at the meeting, the council welcomed a new Police Officer to Knoxville, Jared Hawkinson. Hawkinson will come on as a part time officer and currently works full-time at BNSF Railway.
The council also accepted the resignation of Knoxville Librarian Pat Rose, who has worked at the Knoxville Public Library for 35 years. As part of the resignation agreement, Rose will stay on part-time until her replacement is fully trained.
