Adams County Fairgrounds Adds New Horse Barn

MENDON, Ill. (AP) — A new horse barn at the Adams County Fairgrounds in western Illinois means riders won’t have to tie their horses to their trailers between shows.

The (Quincy) Herald-Whig reports the barn is part of a $37,000 expansion of the fairgrounds near Mendon. A ribbon-cutting event for the barn was held Monday morning.

Vicki Chandler is bringing at least three horses to the fair. She says the horses and the people are going to like the renovations.

The improvements come at a time when the state is cutting funding to county fairs. Fair board members and volunteers contributed much of the work. Some of the wood for the new barn came from an old arena.

The Adams County Fair runs July 29 through Aug. 4 and includes nine horse shows.
